Q +A

When I am in the public eye for whatever reason (but in this case, I am talking about this blog), it is easy for readers to think they know me..because they kind of do. While I don't write everything that goes on in my life, it's more for purposes of time, interest, and respect for others' privacy than concern for my own privacy.

Ask me whatever you want. There is very little I won't talk about.

But in this case, I want to get to know you.

I'd love to even out our exchanges so it's a little more 2-sided. If you're interested.

So.

I'll get the ball rolling.

5 questions. Answer some or all, with as little or as much as you want to share.

What is one of your go-to foods? Quesadillas! Greek, black bean, pizza-style, veggie...

What is one thing you are passionate about? Fair trade. But you knew that.

What are some of your highlights of last weekend?

It was Tim's first weekend off from grad school! We got coffee and went for a walk as a family of 3, picked up our niece and nephew and climbed the Pagoda and the Fire Tower (both landmarks in our city that aren't open all the time), and went on a DATE! I also celebrated "my" mothers day on Sunday, which meant I got to do whatever I wanted all day.

What is one thing that someone can do to make you feel loved? Write me a card with a thoughtful message inside.

This is my Mothers Day card from Tim and Nolan, and it is perfect. Pancakes hold a special place in my heart. They were my breakfast the morning after Nolan was born. They were full of ingredients I wouldn't normally eat, and I could tell they were kind of rubbery, but they tasted AMAZING. And then my son fell in love with Eric Carle's Pancakes! Pancakes! book. I craved pancakes for months.

What is one thing you are looking forward to? My sister and her fiance are coming to stay at my house in just a few days!!

Ok! Your turn!

  1. Your son is adorable!

Go to food: Grilled anything lol or soba noodle stir fry with any veggies I have in the house.

Passion: breastfeeding, but more importantly supporting others to do so

weekend highlights: chasing the ice cream man with the boys and watching their delight when they made their first ever purchase from him. They’ve been asking since last year when we started reading a book about an ice cream man. Showing up at home depot with the expectation that if they behaved we would buy a book to share but finding a mini community event with free bouncy houses, food and face painting. Basically my highlight was watching the boys enjoy their weekend :-)

Makes me feel loved: A husband who knows I need a break and encouraging me to get out kid free. Help with the little everyday things.

one thing i look forward to: Summer and all that goes along with it. Im hoping camping, beach trips and farmers markets are involved. Also looking forward to taking the boys to Sesame Place twice this summer, they have never been. They will finally realize why theres a giant Sesame Street water tower next to the mall :-)

**Sorry for my terrible format, holding Luke and eating lunch LOL

  2. I love this.

Go-to food – oatmeal with a banana, almond butter, cinnamon & vanilla extract. It is my breakfast at least 5 days a week (with a day reserved for pancakes! I second your love of pancakes); fage greek yogurt with honey, carrots as snacks, dark chocolate.

    passionate – about my marriage.

highlights – celebrating TWO brides-to-be at their showers, and catching up with dear friends in the process.

make me feel loved – doing a chore for me. Rides, dishes, anything unexpected that someone took the time to do means so much to me.

looking forward to – spending a day relaxing in the sun at our neighborhood beach this weekend with my husband.

*I love your Mother’s Day card! Is it made by Curly Girl? I love her cards. Anne Taintor too.

  4. Eating-
I so enjoyed reading your answers. I especially loved this part,” Accept me for who I am, with all of my faults & awesomeness.” What a great way to put it .
And YES, the card is made by Curly Girl- my favorite brand of cards!

  5. Lisa-
So much I want to respond to!
Your go-to food sounds right up my alley! I love the idea of reserving a day for pancakes, too:-)

Reading them feels like such a privilege.
You are such a great and thoughtful mama. Your answers just kind of make my heart swell. (<–Does that sound too gushy? I mean it, though!)
I'm with you on loving the grilled "anything!" I still want to try grilling fruit. I'm finding that pretty much anything tastes better on the grill:-).

  7. This is fun. :)

What is one of your go-to foods? Ironically, pancakes. I love them. Turkey and cheese sandwiches, scrambled eggs, bagel with cream cheese. (I like breakfast foods!)

What is one thing you are passionate about? Being a mother and making specific parenting decisions that work for my family.

What are some of your highlights of last weekend? Dinner with some old but very dear friends, my niece’s birthday party, going to the Phillies game with my husband child free.

What is one thing that someone can do to make you feel loved? I’m generally a “gift” person but hearing from my husband that I’m doing a good job or that he appreciates me just melts my heart.

What is one thing you are looking forward to? Vacation in June! We are going to Cape Cod and I’ve never been there. Delia will see the beach for the first time too.

  8. Kristen,
I like breakfast foods, too. Some days, I could eat them for every meal.

I LOVE that you are passionate about being a mother.

I’m curious- what are you favorite kinds of gifts? As a mostly non-gift person who is TRYING to give more thoughtful gifts, I’m always interested in the answer to that question.

Ah! Delia’s going to see the beach! I’m so excited to take Nolan to the beach, too. I’m looking forward to watching the looks on his face as he experiences it for the first time.

Thanks for “playing along.” I may have to do these Q+A posts more often!

  9. Sarah, in terms of gifts it could really be anything, big or small. To me, it’s more the “I saw this and thought of you” type of thing. I see myself as an easy person to buy for so it could be a card, a flower, a journal, favorite food, a purse, jewelry, etc. Seriously, it could be anything!
